Bonbonniéres are crafted in the manner of those made at Chelsea in the 18th century, in
which porcelain covers are fitted to enamel bases. The mid-18th century was a period when
the bonbonniére was a stylish accessory in fashionable circles. Used to hold breath
fresheners, these small elegant objects were made in precious metals, porcelain and enamel
in the form of exotic birds, animals or flowers.
