Comprising four separate enamels in one frame:
Plaque 1 depicts the Cape of St Vincent 14th February 1797. Nelson in H.M.S
Captain, a ship of 74 guns, boarded the 80 gun ship San Nicholas and the 112
gun ship San Josef. This became known as the Nelson patent bridge for taking
enemy ships crossing one to get to another.
Plaque 2 depicts the Battle of the Nile 1798. Nelson in H.M.S Vanguard sailed into
Aboukir Bay and defeated a French fleet at night. The French flagship L’Orient blew up
and the explosion was heard for thirty miles away.
Plaque 3 depicts the battle of Copenhagen 1801. Nelson in H.M.S Elephant a 74 gun
ship and a fleet of 16 attacks the city and its floating hulks and batteries. Finally
defeating the Danes and preventing them from being joined by the Russian and
Swedish fleets.
Plaque 4 depicts the Battle of Trafalgar 23rd October 1805. Nelson in H.M.S Victory
breaks through the enemy line between Redoubtable and the Bucentaure, flagship of the
French Admiral Pierre Villeneuve.
